Newsle is an application that aggregates new content from across the Internet and feeds relevant stories about a user or a user's Facebook or LinkedIn friends. The application can help one stay up to speed on any mentions about themselves on the Internet. It can also help a user know if their friends accomplished something or were noted for something less than desirable (perhaps an arrest?). Newsle doesn't present the social media messages or tweets that some other services does. Instead it presents real facts or notable news sources to its users so they can hear the "true" story about their friends and themselves. Newsle only tracks "real" news sources such as news articles from a newspaper, news websites, or blogs. Newsle users can track their friends or anyone for that matter including celebrities. Users could also search for someone that they don't follow to read up on that person. Newsle helps users track their reputation and also get alerts as soon as they are mentioned on the web. Newsle states it tracks all of the content on the web, so it can be a comprehensive and reliable tool for anyone who is interested.
The Newsle application was developed by two Harvard undergrads named Axel Hansen and Jonah Varon. The application went into beta in January 2011. Since it has been reviewed by a number of sites, many of which sing its praises.
Newsle is like Google Alerts meeting one's Facebook Friends List. There really isn't another site exactly like it. It's easy to use and can quickly pull up little gems from across the Internet that one wouldn't normally find without much work.
Newsle features a feed of the latest articles that a user is following. There are two feeds on the main page including one of the user's friends and another of the public people they are following. Overall, the layout makes sense and is easy to use. It takes a little time for Newsle to aggregate all of the articles from across the Internet, which is understandable. Newsle has a nice design and is easy to use.
Users can sign up for a Newsle account by providing their first and last name, email address and accepting the Newsle Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Newsle will then request new accounts to setup a password, and they could import their friends from LinkedIn or Facebook. Users could also input any public figures, or anyone else they are interested in following.
Newsle is a free application to use.
Newsle is great for anyone who likes to keep tabs on their friends, others or even themselves. The Internet is so massive and Newsle helps make it manageable.
